Jim Fronapfel

Oils | Watercolors | Pastels | Pencil | Charcoal | Carving

Jim Fronapfel is inspired by everyday life especially people that are simply going about their business. It might be a little girl and her mother or a couple of old men, talking quietly, sitting on a bench in Liege, Belgium. An observer of human nature, these subjects and others have become the focus of his paintings.

Born in Arvada and one of 10 children, Fronapfel remembers using an Etch-a-Sketch at the age of 5 or 6 to draw horses. He also did some wood burning as a young man.

His degrees include a bachelor of arts in German from Colorado State University and a bachelor of arts in human resource management from Colorado Christian College. After a dozen years as a youth minister, his career has been in design and illustrating with a transition to computer-aided design.

He has worked with pastels, watercolors, oils, pencils and charcoal. He has even carved a few pieces from alabaster. But he can still whip out an Etch-a-Sketch and amaze his family and friends.

Reflecting on his own work, Fronapfel says, “I consider myself an artist in flux and probably always will be. I have styles I prefer at this time. I like growing, changing, but mostly finding a way to share visually what I see. To me art is rhythm and music that pleases the eye and soul.
